There are four main stages to the production of cannabis flowers: cloning, vegetation, flowering and harvest. For each strain I want to grow I start one plant from seed and then begin a cycle of taking cuttings from the original plant to make the next generation. Once the plant has grown and is producing side shoots I will cut these shoots to make clones. Some of these clones will be moved into DWC buckets to grow and be harvested. Others will be “mother” clones that will be used to produce clones for future use. When done properly I can continue this process indefinitely.
One of the reasons I will clone the seeds I start is because they are very expensive. Another is what is called phenotypic variation. These seeds come from hybrid plants and will exhibit a blend of the physical characteristics of the two or more plants used to make the hybrid. I prefer compact plants in the tents and I may have to start several seeds to eventually find a plant I like. Additionally, growing the same clone over and over lets me learn how to get the most out of the plant.
