Culture
This is a very slow growing strain. It takes longer for the roots to form when cloning. The large, soft fan leaves will cover the tips of the stems as they grow. The leaves need to be pushed down and sometimes held down with wires. The intense light I use does cause the fan leaves on most strains to grow upward to some extent but the SJ leaves seem to hug the tip and block the light. I have started to remove one of the two fan leaves that form as a stem grows. This lets more light hit the growing tip so it will grow faster. On most of my plants I now try to keep two rows of fan leaves and remove the oldest leaves as new ones form. This allows good airflow around the base of the plant and removes the less efficient older leaves which are mostly shaded anyway.
