Deep Water Culture uses air to circulate and aerate the nutrient solution. I use a 5 inch Pawfly airstone in each bucket, very reliable. Air pressure supplied by two 30 watt – 1000 gph air pumps, running 3 buckets on each. This is overkill however low oxygen levels slow plant growth and invite root rot. Once I added the second pump there was a noticeable increase in plant and root growth. The second pump is also backup in case one dies.
This setup provides a powerful current and really oxygenates the solution.
